Coast Guard assists 5, 1 dog near Bayou La Batre, Alabama

MOBILE, Alabama — The Coast Guard assisted five people and one dog aboard a houseboat taking on water in the Mississippi Sound near Bayou La Batre, Tuesday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a distress call on radio VHF-FM channel 16 from a person aboard the houseboat stating they were taking on water due to inclement weather.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island 45-foot Response Boat — Medium boatcrew and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile.

After arriving on scene, the boatcrew assisted the vessel with dewatering and provided escort back to Bayou La Batre.
