Coast Guard assists 4 near Cape May, N.J.

CAPE MAY, N.J. – The Coast Guard assisted four people aboard a 20-foot boat seven miles northwest of Cape May Lighthouse after they were taking on water Friday.

The Coast Guard received a call at approximately 12:30 p.m. from a crewmember aboard the boat reporting they were taking on water over the bow and were bailing water with buckets to maintain the flooding.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Cape May arrived on scene, determined they were taking on water due to a low freeboard and stabilized the situation by transferring a Coast Guardsman and a pump over to the boat to assist.

The rescue boat crew escorted the boat to Maurice River, N.J.

No injuries were reported.
