Coast Guard assists 4 boaters, tows disabled boat off Bethany Beach, Del.

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. — The Coast Guard assisted four boaters aboard a disabled boat Wednesday approximately two miles east of Bethany Beach.

A 47-foot Motor Lifeboat (MLB) crew from Coast Guard Station Indian River Inlet responded and took the disabled and adrift 25-foot pleasure craft in tow.

A good Samaritan notified the Coast Guard of the disabled boat and remained on scene until the MLB crew arrived.

“I’m very pleased with my crew’s performance on this rescue mission,” said Chief Petty Officer Michael Kristiansen, officer in charge of Station Indian River Inlet. “Rough weather and 48-degree water made this situation potentially very dangerous, but everyone was wearing their life jackets and our crew was able to arrive on scene quickly and tow the boat to safety. Now that’s something to be thankful for!”
