Coast Guard assists 4 boaters aboard disabled boat in Lake St. Clair

CLEVELAND — The Coast Guard assisted four boaters, early Saturday evening, aboard a disabled boat in Lake St. Clair.

At about 5:30 p.m., a rescue boat crew aboard a 25-foot response boat from Coast Guard Station St. Clair Shores, responded to a call for assistance over VHF-FM channel 16, the designated international hailing and distress channel, from a disabled and adrift 29-foot boat with four people aboard in the vicinity of Jefferson Beach Marina. One of the persons aboard the vessel was concerned about their health and needed to get to shore.

Once on scene, the boat crew assessed the situation and decided that the most prudent decision was towing the boaters to shore. All health concerns were rectified without the need of medical personnel.

The Coast Guard encourages boaters to always call for help if there is a need for assistance. Taking early precautions can help prevent unexpected situations from becoming emergencies.
