MOBILE, Ala. — The Coast Guard along with Good Samaritans assisted 32 people on a sinking charter vessel 12-miles south of Pensacola, Fla. Monday Oct. 27, 2008.
The Coast Guard received a call from the captain of the charter vessel the New Florida Girl at approximately 9:30 a.m. reporting that the vessel was taking on water and was in need of assistance.
Two 41-foot response boats and crews from Coast Guard Station Pensacola, an 87-foot patrol boat the Coast Guard Cutter Seahawk, homeported in Carrabelle, Fl., and a HU-25 Falcon jet and crew from the Aviation Training Center in Mobile, Ala. were launched to assist. De-watering pumps were transferred to the New Florida Girl to mitigate flooding.
The New Florida Girl is under its on power and is en route to Destin Harbor and is being escorted by the Cutter Seahawk.
