NEW YORK — A Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook boatcrew assisted three boaters who were stranded aboard an 18-foot vessel in Sandy Hook Bay, Friday.
Operators at a commercial salvage and towing company, contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New York at approximately 9:00 a.m., requesting help for three individuals who were experiencing engine problems and did not have a working marine radio.
Coast Guard watchstanders issued a small craft advisory due to the 25-knot wind and three to five-foot sea state. Due to safety concerns, the commerical salvage and towing compay were unable to respond.
A Coast Guard 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook responded to the disabled boat. Once the boatcrew arrived on scene, they transfered the three boaters off of the disabled vessel and took it into tow. The 18-foot vessel was safely towed to Atlantic Highlands Marine in New Jersey.
