Coast Guard assisting in search for missing swimmer in Chester, Conn.

First Coast Guard District NewsNEW YORK – The Coast Guard is assisting in the search for a missing swimmer in the waters near Chester Creek, Conn., Sunday.

The Coast Guard received a report from the Essex County, Conn., Police Department of a man who was swimming out to a boat moored in the Pattaconk Yacht Club marina when he went under and did not resurface. The missing man is described as a 38-year-old Caucasian with dark hair wearing blue and yellow trunks.

The Coast Guard issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and launched a rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station New London to assist with the search. Marine units from the Chester Country, Conn., Old Saybrook, Conn., and Deep River, Conn., Fire Departments and a marine unit from the Essex County Police Department are on scene. Connecticut State Police divers are searching the area.
