Coast Guard approves transit plan for Stephen L. Colby

LECLAIRE, Iowa — The Coast Guard approved a transit plan for the 154-foot towboat Stephen L. Colby, Wednesday.

The Stephen L. Colby will be decontaminated before getting underway to St. Louis. The towboat is expected to be in St. Louis within a week.

Three holes on the hull of the Stephen L. Colby have been patched.

Approximately 38,900 gallons of oily-water mixture has been recovered from the river, 89,000 gallons of oily-water mixture recovered from the Stephen L. Colby, and more than 6,900 cubic feet of oily waste has been collected.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
