Coast Guard announces selection of first Master Chief Maritime Enforcement Specialists

Washington – History was made at Coast Guard Headquarters today, when coast Guard Commandant Admiral Thad Allen announced the selection of the first Master Chief Maritime Enforcement Specialists (MECM).  Adm Allen First announced the new rating in June of this year.  With January of 2010 the schedule date for full activation of the new rating, today’s announcement was the first milestone in the creation and implementation of the Maritime Enforcement Specialist rating.

The first members of the new rating are:

MECM Gordon Muse: Rating Force Manager
MECM Steven Lowry: Senior SWE/Non-Resident Course Writer
MECM Randy Krahn: ME A School Chief
MECM Sam Allred: PS Rating Force Manager

The new MECMs will join with the Maritime Enforcement Implementation Team and play an instrumental role as the Coast Guard moves to the 2010 milestone. MECM Sam Allred iss the current Port Securityman Rating Force Manager and will continue in that capacity and following the 2010 active duty implementation will assist in ensuring a smooth transition of those Port Security Specialists changing ratings to ME.
