ASTORIA, Ore. – The Coast Guard is scheduled to close the Rogue River search and rescue detachment in Gold Beach, Ore., Monday.
The detachment opens seasonally due to increased boating traffic during the summer months and hazardous river bar conditions. The detachment will remain closed until Memorial Day, 2011.
Mariners are advised that the river entrance will not be covered by immediate emergency response from Coast Guard assets.
The Pacific Northwest is home to some of the roughest river bars in the world. Boaters should check river bar closure information and current bar restrictions before they head out on the water.
