CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Coast Guard will be establishing a safety zone on the Wando River in Charleston as part of on-going small boat training beginning Monday and lasting thru Friday, March 23.
During this training Coast Guard boats will be energizing their blue lights, alarms, sirens and will be conducting maneuvers in the Wando River. To limit vessel traffic in the area, the Captain of the Port Charleston is establishing a temporary safety zone. The safety zone will be in enforced Monday thru Friday, March 23 and will encompass the waters north of the I-526 bridge, Daybeacon #13 (LLNR 3350) to Horlbeck Creek, Daybeacon #23 (LLNR 3390) on the Wando River.
The safety zone will be enforced from 7 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., on March 19, 20, and 21; from 7 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., and 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. on March 22; and from 7 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. on March 23.
All persons and vessels are prohibited from entering, transiting through, anchoring in, or remaining within the safety zone unless authorized by the Captain of the Port Charleston or a designated representative. Mariners may contact the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Safety Platform, call sign “SAFETY 1”, on VHF-FM channels 16 or 22A to request transit within the enacted safety zone if necessary.
