MORGAN CITY, La. – The Coast Guard and the St. Mary’s Parish Sheriff’s Office are searching for a 23-year-old male who reportedly went missing, Tuesday, after he fell from the Calumet Bridge into the Wax Lake Outlet near Patterson, La.
At approximately 2 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans command center received a call from the St. Mary’s Parish Sheriff’s Office reporting that their marine unit and the Patterson Volunteer Fire Department were searching the Wax Lake Outlet for a white male. The man had reportedly fallen into the water while playing around under the bridge with a group of his friends.
The man was last seen wearing a white T-shirt.
Currently searching are:
- Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew;
- St. Mary’s Parish Sheriff’s marine unit;
- Patterson Volunteer Fire Department;
- Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Morgan City 25-foot response boat (RB-S) and crew.
An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast has been issued to mariners to keep a sharp lookout in the area.
“The integration of multiple agencies involved in this search highlights the crucial partnerships between local, state, and federal search and rescue agencies, which benefits the communities they serve,” said Lt. Cmdr. Len Robinson, chief of the Sector New Orleans command center.
