Coast Guard and San Mateo County Sheriff Rescue Two People Off Pigeon Point

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Coast Guard and San Mateo County Sheriff rescued two people off Pigeon Point after their boat hit the rocks early this morning. The distress call was received around 1:15 am and Coast Guard Sector San Francisco responded immediately by sending out a helicopter from Air Station San Francisco and a small boat from CG Station Golden Gate. The CG requested assistance from San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department who recovered one person from the shore. The second passenger was rescued by the CG helicopter.

The thirty-five foot commercial fishing vessel LOU DENNY WAYNE sank shortly after the two persons were rescued. According to the ship’s owner an estimated 600 gallons of diesel fuel was on board at the time of the incident. CG assets on scene reported no smell or visible oil in the vicinity of the sunken vessel. A CG pollution investigation team is responding to the incident and will be on scene at sunrise.
