BALTIMORE – The Coast Guard along with partnering agencies are searching for four people in the Middle River Saturday after receiving a distress call.
Coast Guard Sector Baltimore watchstanders received a mayday from the operator of the vessel in distress via marine-band radio channel 16 at 2:48 a.m., reporting his 48-foot pleasure craft had one adult and three children aboard and was taking on water.
The person in distress reportedly departed from the River Watch Marina and Restaurant in Essex, Md.
A rescue boatcrew from both Coast Guard Station Curtis Bay, Md., and Coast Guard Station Stillpond, Md., arrived on scene within 40 minutes. A Tow Boat U.S. boatcrew, a Maryland State Police helicopter rescue crew, Baltimore County Fire Rescue marine and shore units, a Baltimore County Police Department shore unit, a Maryland Natural Resources Police boatcrew as well as a HH-65 Dolphin helicopter rescue crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., also arrived on scene to assist in the search.
The boatcrew from Station Stillpond and NRP searched throughout the night and remain on scene. The aircrew from Maryland State Police conducted a search this morning. An aircrew from Air Station Atlantic City is en route to continue search efforts.
