Coast Guard and New Jersey State Police rescue 1 near Bass River Township, N.J.

BASS RIVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The Coast Guard along with the New Jersey State Police rescued a 62-year-old male who was lost in the woods near the Wading River after the kayak he was in overturned Sunday.

The Coast Guard received a call at 8 p.m. from a member of the New Jersey State Police reporting the man missing in the woods.

A rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., arrived on scene, located the man and hoisted him from the woods near the river.

The air crew transported him to the air station where he was transferred to awaiting medical personnel and treated for hypothermia.

“He was in a severely hypothermic state and was in need of immediate evacuation,” said Lt. Paul Laroche, a pilot at Air Station Atlantic City.
