Coast Guard and Navy crews work together to assist ailing fisherman

SAN DIEGO — U.S. Coast Guard and Navy crews worked together to medically evacuate a 37-year-old man who reportedly suffered a seizure aboard a fishing vessel 23 miles off the coast of San Diego, Monday morning.

The crew of the 47-foot charter fishing boat Joanna requested assistance for the man at 9:05 a.m., on VHF-FM radio channel 16.

A 45-foot Response Boat was launched from Coast Guard Station San Diego to conduct the medevac. The USS Anchorage’s crew, who were operating in the area, also dispatched a doctor and corpsman to provide medical assistance to the fisherman.

Once on scene, the Coast Guard boat crew brought the patient and Navy medical personnel on board and transported them to Coast Guard Sector San Diego. The man was transferred to emergency medical personnel for further care at 11:15.
