Coast Guard and local responders attempt to save diver

A MH-65C Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles.SAN PEDRO, Calif. – The Coast Guard and local rescue crews responded to a report of a diver in distress off Flat Rock near Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., early Sunday afternoon.

Redondo Beach Harbor Patrol and Los Angeles County Lifeguard crews began searching for and located the unconscious 60-year-old male. Rescuers began conducting cardiopulmonary resuscitation enroute to waiting emergency medical personnel at King Harbor.

Officials decided to transfer the man to a MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter, from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles, where he was flown to the USC Hypobaric Chamber on Catalina Island.

The diver’s current condition is unknown.
