NEW YORK – The Coast Guard is searching for a missing person in the water near Fisher Island, N.Y., Sunday.
At 2:35 p.m., a watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound in New Haven, Conn., received a distress call from a passenger aboard 50-foot motor-vessel, Priceless, stating their vessel had struck Pulpit Rock near Fisher Island. The vessel subsequently sank with 10 people onboard.
A Good Samaritan aboard vessel, Salty Dog, quickly responded to the incident and rescued nine of the ten people and their dog. Coast Guard Station New London rescue boat crews are on scene working together with marine units and divers from the Mystic Fire Department and Seatow to locate the missing woman.
“Coast Guard Station New London is working hard with its partner agencies to locate the missing woman,” said Lt. Jeff Janaro, spokesman for Sector Long Island Sound. “We cannot thank the Good Samaritan enough for their quick response to lend a hand.”
