NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Coast Guard and local agencies are responding to a report of an oil spill at the small boat harbor at Newport News Creek Tuesday.
Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads received a report of the oil spill at 6 a.m. and sent pollution investigators to assess the spill.
Newport News Fire and Hazardous Materials crews were first on scene and closed the harbor to place containment boom around the spill.
Coast Guard pollution investigators initially reported the spill to be approximately 25 gallons of diesel fuel. The source is unknown.
