Coast Guard and local agencies rescue overdue boaters in Charleston County, S.C.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coast Guard, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, Charleston County Rescue and the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office searched for and located two missing boaters near Bohicket Creek in Charleston County Tuesday.

Operational watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Charleston were notified at 11:30 p.m., Monday, that two boaters aboard an 18-foot sailboat had failed to return to shore after departing the Cherry Point Boat Landing located on Wadmalaw Island near Rockville, S.C. The report indicated the boaters had departed the boat ramp Monday at 2 p.m. and were to return to shore Monday evening.

A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew from Air Facility Charleston, a Coast Guard 25-foot rescue boat crew from Station Charleston, South Carolina DNR and local authorities responded.

The Coast Guard located both boaters in a marsh near the entrance of Bohicket creek at 3:14 a.m., Tuesday. South Carolina DNR removed both boaters and transported them ashore.

No injuries were reported.
