Coast Guard and lifeguards rescue 3 from Lake Michigan near Calumet Harbor breakwall

CLEVELAND – The Coast Guard rescued two persons and a local lifeguard rescued another from Lake Michigan after their personal watercraft capsized just outside of the Calumet Harbor breakwall in Chicago, Saturday afternoon.

At 2:49 p.m., a communications watchstander at Coast Guard Station Calumet Harbor witnessed the personal watercraft capsize and notified the rescue boatcrew.

Shortly after arriving on scene the rescue boatcrew, aboard a 25-foot Response Boat-Small, pulled two people aboard the boat as the other person was being pulled aboard the lifeguard boat. All three people rescued were wearing a life jacket.

The Coast Guard boatcrew towed the personal watercraft to the 95th Street boat ramp in Chicago.

No medical attention was needed.
