Coast Guard and James City County searching for 2 missing boaters

JAMES CITY, Va. – The Coast Guard and James City County police department are searching for two missing boaters whose 23-foot boat capsized in the York River near Croaker Landing Thursday.

A James City County 911 dispatcher notified Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads watchstanders that the two boaters were overdue at 9:56 a.m.

A rescue boat crew from Station Milford Haven launched to search, and an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., diverted to the last known position of the boat to assist.

The James City County Police Department are searching with a helicopter crew and two boat crews.

The Coast Guard helicopter crew lowered a rescue swimmer to the capsized boat after it was located, but did not find any sign of the two boaters in or around it. The helicopter crew has left the scene to refuel in West Point, Va., and plans to return to conduct search patterns.
