Coast Guard and Freeport Police Department rescue four people from Mystery Harbor

HOUSTON – The Coast Guard and the Freeport Police Department rescued four people after their boat capsized in Mystery Harbor off Freeport, Sunday.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Station Freeport received a call from the Freeport Police Department at 2:18 p.m. reporting that a 20-foot aluminum hulled boat with four people aboard had capsized in Mystery Harbor. The Freeport Police Department picked up three of the boaters and immediately transported them to awaiting EMS personnel.

A Freeport First Responder also arrived on scene and swam out to the fourth person in the water. The responder was able to hold the person above water until a Coast Guard Station Freeport 25-foot Response Boat-Small crew arrived to assist. The RB-S crew was diverted from a security patrol, arrived on scene and retrieved both individuals from the water and transported them to land.

Two of the four boaters were reported to be wearing life jackets. The Freeport Police Department reported that the vessel capsized as it was being turned in the harbor.

The condition of the boaters is unknown.
