Coast Guard, AMVER search for missing sailor off Bermuda

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard and commercial ships are searching the Atlantic Ocean approximately 184 miles southwest of Bermuda for a 30-year-old man reported missing from aboard the Greek flagged merchant vessel, MSC Tuscany, Wednesday

Coast Guard watchstanders received notification from Rescue Coordination Center Bermuda, relayed from the MSC Tuscany, at 5:27 p.m.

The MSC Tuscany’s crew reported last seeing the man at 9 a.m., and noticed him missing at noon. After searching the ship, the crew called RCC Bermuda for help.

Using AMVER, the automated mutual assistance vessel rescue system, the Coast Guard has directed three additional vessels to help conduct the search.

The Coast Guard also launched an HC-130 Hercules rescue aircrew crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C.
