Coast Guard Airlifts Woman After Cliff Fall

BOSTON – A 74-year-old woman who fell from a cliff into a 25-foot-deep ravine near Beavertail Lighthouse in Jamestown, R.I., was rushed to the hospital in a Coast Guard helicopter today.

Jamestown Fire Department requested Coast-Guard air support about noon for the North Kingstown, R.I , resident who suffered trauma after falling.

She was airlifted at 1 p.m. and taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, R.I.

“These shore cliffs are very dangerous,” said Lt.j.g Ryan Tickell, the HH-60-Jayhawk-helicopter pilot from Air Station Cape Cod, Mass. “Unfortunate falls like this are common. The thing we would have folks remember is to use caution,” he said.
