SAN FRANCISCO — A stranded boater was rescued by a Coast Guard aircrew Sunday evening after his vessel ran aground on a jetty in the Richmond Inner Harbor.
At approximately 6:15 p.m., Coast Guard Sector San Francisco received a call from a man aboard a 24-foot pleasure craft who had run out of fuel and drifted into a jetty. A 25-foot response boat crew, from Station San Francisco, was dispatched to the scene but was unable to reach the man due to shallow water around the jetty. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, from Air Station San Francisco, was then launched and hoisted the man to safety.
The man reported no injuries but requested to be taken to the Stanford Medical Center for evaluation.
The Coast Guard reminds boaters to always ensure their vessel is properly equipped with the required safety equipment and enough fuel and supplies for the planned voyage.
