Coast Guard airlifts man with hook in his eye

SEATTLE – A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew hoisted a man from a 68-foot fishing vessel located 55 nautical miles offshore from Coos Bay, Ore., today.

Coast Guard Group North Bend received a call reporting that a man aboard the Rose Marie had experienced a fishing related accident and was in need of medical attention.

The helicopter crew transported the man to Bay Area Hospital, Ore., in stable condition.

Hospital officials report that a large fishing hook was removed and appears to have missed all of the vital portions of his eye. The hook entered the man’s left eye and protruded through his brow.
