Coast Guard airlifts man near Tillamook Bay, Ore.

SEATTLE – A Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew airlifted an Air Force member today after he developed a medical condition during a water survival exercise 1.5 miles west of Tillamook Bay, Ore.

The member was transferred from a raft and onto a nearby 47-foot motor lifeboat from Coast Guard Station Tillamook Bay at 12:15 p.m.

Minutes later, the member was hoisted from the motor lifeboat to an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, Ore., and transferred to an awaiting ambulance at Station Tillamook Bay.

The Air Force was conducting the water survival training in life rafts at the time of the incident.
