Coast Guard airlifts injured hiker

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard airlifted a man near Charleston, Ore., today.

Frank Schneidle, 39 years-old, sustained injuries while walking along the beach close to the Cape Arago Lighthouse.

Coast Guard Group North Bend, Ore., received a request for assistance at 12:30 p.m. from the Charleston Fire Department.

Group North Bend launched an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew to the scene. The injured man was then airlifted to Coast Guard Air Facility Newport, Ore., and transported to the hospital by awaiting emergency medical personnel.
