Coast Guard airlifts injured fisherman

BOSTON – A Coast Guard helicopter hoisted a man from a fishing vessel about 120 miles east of Cape Cod, Mass., today after he severely injured his hand.

A fisherman aboard the 74-foot scallop vessel, Teresa Marie III, called the Coast Guard about 5:15 a.m., today to report that one of the crewmen aboard was suffering from trauma to his right hand and requested a medevac.

Air Station Cape Cod launched a helicopter, as well as a jet to fly cover, arrived on scene with the Teresa Marie III about 7:20 a.m., hoisted the injured fisherman and transferred him in stable condition to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston about 9 a.m.
