Coast Guard airlifts boat passenger

BOSTON – The Coast Guard airlifted a 16-year-old charter boat passenger today after he suffered from a reported seizure about 15 miles offshore from Gloucester, Mass.

Coast Guard Station Gloucester received the report from a crewman aboard the 75-foot Yankee Clipper that the teenager had fallen and needed medical assistance.

A 47-foot motor lifeboat crew was dispatched to the scene, in addition to the Coast Guard Cutter Flyingfish, homeported in Boston, which was in the area.

Both boats arrived on scene at 10:50 a.m. The 47-foot motor lifeboat crew transferred the teenager to the Flyingfish. A Jayhawk rescue helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod arrived at about 11:30 a.m., hoisted the patient from Flyingfish and flew him to Massachusetts General Hospital.

The teenager was reported to be in good condition.
