Coast Guard aircrew rescues 3 fishermen

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Coast Guard rescued three fishermen today from the shore of Thompson Beach near Bidwell Creek in Delaware Bay after the 24-foot skiff they were aboard became disabled.

Rescued were CJ Reagan, 32, Michael Ketcham, 43, and William Smith, 45, all of Cape May N.J.

The Coast Guard received a call at 2:01 a.m. today reporting the fishing boat Miss Julian was 15 hours overdue with three people aboard. A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., and a small boat crew from Station Cape May conducted a search for the fishermen. The helicopter crew spotted a strobe light followed by a flare near Thompson Beach.

The aircrew landed and brought Reagan, Ketcham and Smith aboard and transported them to Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City.

Smith was reported to be diabetic and was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center by ambulance as a precaution.

“I was relieved when I saw the helicopter flying up above us,” said CJ Reagan, Captain of the fishing boat Miss Julian.
