ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. — A Coast Guard helicopter crew medically evacuated an injured cruise ship passenger from the Carnival Fantasy more than 80 miles northeast of Cape Canaveral, Fla., Wednesday.
The 27-year-old man reported experiencing severe abdominal pain.
After discussing the man’s condition with the Coast Guard’s on-duty flight surgeon and the physician aboard the cruise ship, it was determined that a medevac was needed immediately.
An aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami launched, arrived on scene and hoisted the man and a nurse off the cruise ship.
The helicopter was expected to arrive at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, Fla., about 12:45 p.m.
The man’s current condition is unknown.
