Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City and Michigan State Police conduct joint training

Great Lakes Coast Guard NewsTRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Indicative of their strategic partnership, members of Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City, Mich., and the Michigan State Police recently completed joint-agency helicopter training designed to increase their operational readiness Thursday at the air station.

For the second time in just over a week, members of the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team participated in training with Air Station Traverse City crewmembers in order to provide members of the team training in underwater egress, swim endurance and helicopter hoisting, furthering the state police’s ability to respond to threats on the state’s waterways.

In turn, the training provides the air station crew with an increased understanding of the state police’s procedures and capabilities.

The training is designed to enhance the partnership between the two organizations, allowing them to better serve the citizens and visitors in the Great Lakes region.
