SAVANNAH, Ga. – Coast Guard Air Station Savannah conducted an exercise Tuesday to better prepare for the possibility of an actual response to an incident involving one of its own aircraft.
This training forces Coast Guard members to examine how they would respond to a major incident within the unit. In this exercise, Air Station Savannah simulated the loss of one its aircraft.
During an actual incident the unit must conduct search and rescue for their own members, notify the appropriate personnel and next of kin, and gather any evidence that may provide information as to what caused the accident.
This exercise better prepares Air Station Savannah to respond to an actual incident, and it will allow the Coast Guard to return more quickly to its primary mission of safe-guarding the public.
