NEW ORLEANS — Two Coast Guard HH-65C rescue helicopters and crews were launched last night, one to conduct a medavac and another to search for an overdue vessel.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., Monday, April 6, 2009, the Coast Guard received a call from an crewmember aboard an oilrig approximately 23 miles south of Port Fourchon, La., that a fellow crewmember was suffering from shortness of breath and requested a medevac. A rescue helicopter and crew were launched and arrived on scene at approximately 10:20 p.m. The Coast Guard medevaced a 51-year-old man and transported him back Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans where he was met by ambulance and taken to Oschner Hospital in Gretna, La.
His condition is unknown.
Also, last night, Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched a second HH-65C rescue helicopter and crew at approximately 7:00 p.m., in search of a couple who were reported missing by their son when they did not return to Franklin Canal port. The Coast Guard helicopter crews located Craig and Kiley Mayer and their 17-foot sailing vessel at approximately midnight, Monday, April 6, 2009, in the Franklin Canal and determined they were safe.
