Coast Guard Air Station Miami rescue crew medically evacuates 57-year-old from cruise ship

MIAMI — A 57-year-old male passenger aboard the Carnival cruise ship Sensation was medically evacuated after suffering an injury 43 nautical miles east of Boca Raton, Florida, Saturday evening.

At approximately 5 p.m., the crew aboard the Sensation contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Miami and requested assistance. After consulting with the flight surgeon, a medical evacuation was recommended due to the accute severity of the injury. An MH-65 helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami launched to respond to the report.

Upon arriving on scene, the man was safely hoisted into the helicopter then transported to St. Mary’s Hospital Regional Trauma Center.
