Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City medevacs woman from research boat off NC coast

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard medevaced a 72-year-old woman Saturday from a research boat approximately 300 miles southeast of Norfolk.

Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads watchstanders received notification at approximately 5:50 p.m. Friday that the woman fell and broke her collar bone aboard the research boat Marcus G. Langseth.

The Coast Guard advised the crew of Marcus G. Langseth to begin making way toward Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to medevac the woman and an HC-130 Hercules aircraft crew for support at approximately 6 a.m. Saturday.

The helicopter crew arrived at the location of the research boat, hoisted the injured woman and flew her to Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City.

She was reported to be in stable condition.
