Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater to Hold Change of Command

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater is scheduled to hold a change of command ceremony on Wednesday, at the Air Station in Clearwater, Fla.Capt. Michael Emerson, commanding officer of Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, will be relinquishing command to Capt. Todd Sokalzuk during a time-honored military tradition, which transfers total responsibility, authority and accountability of the unit from one individual to another.

Capt. Sokalzuk reports to Air Station Clearwater from the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., where he attended since 2006. In 2005 Sokalzuk served as commander of Air Station Savannah. From 2002-2005 he served as Deputy Commander of Coast Guard Activities San Diego where he acquired a variety of resources for anti-terrorism force protection upgrades, construction projects and managed the reorganization of Activities San Diego into a Sector.

Sokalzuk is married to the former Ruth Williams of George West, Texas. They are the proud parents of one son, Samuel.

Capt. Emerson assumed command of Air Station Clearwater on November 1, 2005, following a year of duty as the Executive Officer. Emerson will be departing shortly after the ceremony to assume the role of Chief, Office of Aviation Forces in Washington, D.C.

Following the change of command, the Clearwater Council of the Navy League of the United States and the Central Area President of the Navy League will be presenting the Navy League Scroll of Honor to Capt. Emerson and executive officer Cmdr. Richard Paglialonga in tribute to their outstanding service to the Navy League of the United States.
