Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod to hold hurricane awareness event

BOURNE, Mass. — The public is invited to a free hurricane awareness event at U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, May, 2, 2011.

Air Station Cape Cod is teaming up with the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration to conduct the event in an effort to raise public awareness of the upcoming hurricane season.

Air Station Cape Cod and NOAA will provide static aircraft displays, including an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, HU-25 Guardian jet and a P-3 Orion “Hurricane Hunter” aircraft and subject matter experts to present hurricane awareness, preparedness, water safety, and rescue and survival information to attendees.

Additionally, the National Weather Service, Museum of Science, Blue Hill Observatory and Science Center, Cape Cod Medical Reserve Corps and other agencies will have booths nearby with additional information.

Attendance is expected to be approximately 1,500, including guided tours and presentations to local 5th and 6th grade science classes.

The event will be open to the general public from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
