Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City crews deploy for Hurricane Ike

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Coast Guard deployed 10 personnel Thursday in preparation for Hurricane Ike making landfall on the Gulf Coast.

Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City deployed two pilots, two flight mechanics and two rescue swimmers by commercial flights out of Philadelphia to Jacksonville, Fla. Also, the air station deployed a search and rescue helicopter crew, which is en route to New Orleans.

Hurricane Ike is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph. A general west-northwestward motion is expected for the next 24 hours with a turn to the northwest expected late Friday.

“The reason for the deployment is to help with relief efforts and air crew support for this hurricane,” said Lt. Paul LaRoche, a pilot stationed at Air Station Atlantic City, N.J.
