BOSTON — This morning at approximately 9:10 a.m., a Coast Guard HC-144A air crew transported a team of neonatal specialists from Tufts Medical Center to Nantucket, Mass. to assist a woman in premature labor.

A Coast Guard HC-144A  Ocean Sentry Medium Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft is designed to serve as an on-scene command platform for search and rescue (SAR), and is well-equipped to perform transport missions in these type of situations.
“We train to be ready when emergent circumstances arise,” said Cmdr. Glen MacPherson, the Coast Guard flight surgeon on call. “Time was of the essence and our crews immediately responded to get the medical care to the mother and baby.”
