Coast Guard Air Crew Medevacs Injured Boater

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – A Coast Guard HH-60 Jayhawk Rescue helicopter crew based in Elizabeth City, N.C., responded to a report of an aground vessel with an injured boater in the Albemarle Sound today.

The crew arrived on scene and hoisted a 54-year old man suffering from a concussion sustained when his pleasure craft Express went aground. The aircrew transported the the injured boater to Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City, N.C., where he will be evaluated. The man is listed in stable condition.

The Coast Guard reminds all boaters to have working marine band radios in the event of an emergency.
