BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. – Coast Guard assisted in the search for a missing boater near Bayou La Batre, Alabama, Friday.
Coast Guard Sector Mobile watchstanders received notification of an unmanned vessel at 12:28 p.m.
Coast Guard Sector Mobile issued an urgent marine-information broadcast and small boats from Coast Guard Station Pascagoula and Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island, as well as an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, were dispatched to search for the missing boater.
Alabama Marine Police was also called in to assist the search.
AMP located the missing boater on Aux Herbes, also known as Coffee Island, at 3:28 p.m. local time in good condition.
The boater said that he lost his balance while tending a net and fell overboard. He was unable to keep up with his boat and eventually swam to a nearby island.
