Coast Guard advises mariners of Coastal Carolina Railroad Bridge temporary schedule change

Mid Atlantic Coast Guard NewsWILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard is advising mariners of a temporary operating schedule change for the Coastal Carolina Railroad Bridge across the Newport River in Morehead City, N.C., that began Wednesday and will be in effect until Oct. 1, 2013.

To facilitate needed repairs, the bridge shall operate as follows:

  • From 5 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., the bridge will be open to vessel traffic and will only be closed for the passage of trains and to perform periodic maintenance.
  • The bridge will be closed to vessel traffic from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. An opening can be provided at midnight if advance notice is given before 4 p.m. the day before the requested opening by calling 954-658-4661 or via VHF-FM channels 13 or 16.


Mariners should use extreme caution when transiting the area.
