Coast Guard activates DART’s to assist in Iowa flooding

ST. LOUIS – Coast Guard Disaster Area Response Teams (DARTs) are now standing by to assist with the widespread flooding in the Midwest.

The Coast Guard has activated two DARTs after receiving a request for assistance by the state of Iowa. The Coast Guard DARTs are slated to operate near Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Other Coast Guard DARTs are on standby in Sectors Upper Mississippi and Ohio Valley.

DARTs consists of three flat bottom boats known as flood punts, capable of navigating in shallow flood waters and are accompanied by eight crewmen trained in flood response.
