Coast Guard Academy personnel to attend Honolulu National College Fair

HONOLULU — Senior leadership from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Admissions Office in New London, Conn., are scheduled to attend the Honolulu National College Fair and present a series of events taking place here between April 22-27.

Their presence in Hawaii marks a significant outreach effort taking place nationwide to boost interest in the country’s smallest, most unique armed forces service academy.

The group will set up a booth at the Hawaii Convention Center for the Honolulu National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) National College Fair Thursday between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. and also between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

They will also host the Students of All Races (SOAR) event at the Coast Guard base on Sand Island Saturday at 9:30 a.m. for any interested high school students and their families (RSVP required). This event is an opportunity for students to ask questions about the military, the Coast Guard and the Coast Guard Academy. Students can also meet Coast Guard Academy graduates, officers and the admissions staff. A search and rescue demonstration is scheduled for the students to view, along with a helicopter tour, small boat, patrol boat and a Sector Honolulu tour, starting at approximately 10 a.m.

The admissions staff will also co-host a reception for interested parties and friends of the Coast Guard at the Sand Island Pier, Monday, April 26, between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. (RSVP required).

Coast Guard Academy personnel are also scheduled to visit 10 high schools on Oahu on Monday, April 26, and Tuesday, April 27.
