Coast Guard Academy Hosts Marine Corps Boxing Team Exhibition for Local Youth

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The U.S. Coast Guard Academy hosted the U.S. Marine Corps Boxing Team’s 6th Annual Northeast Tour Nov. 20, 2009 in historic Billard Hall.

The Coast Guard Academy along with Heavy Hitters USA, a sports and mentoring program for at-risk youth, presented an exhibition that featured the Marine Corps boxing team competing against boxers from the Coast Guard Academy, the United States Navy, the Army’s West Point boxing team and USA Boxing Connecticut.

Heavy Hitters USA is a non-profit organization established in New London to provide after-school and early evening boxing, wrestling, conditioning and mentoring programs for kids and young adults to develop life and work readiness skills.

The Academy Glee Club and Pep Band also performed during the event.
