Executives from Lockheed Martin Corp. and Northrop Grumman Corp. on Tuesday fended off congressional criticism of their roles in running the Coast Guard’s multibillion-dollar fleet modernization program, while the agency’s top officer promised more effective oversight.
The modernization program, dubbed Deepwater, “is essential to the Coast Guard’s future,” Commandant Adm. Thad Allen told a House subcommittee. “In many ways it is the Coast Guard’s future. We have to get it right.”
