MUNISING — Two Grand Marais residents recently received recognition from the U.S. Coast Guard for their help in guiding a sea-battered tugboat to safety during a ferocious December storm on Lake Superior.
Howard Baker and Lee Durrwachter were surprised with special recognition by the Coast Guard Sector Sault and the USCG Auxiliary Division 28-09CR.
“I was completely surprised,†Durrwachter said. “It was quite exciting. Being recognized for your contribution is always nice.â€
“We were just doing our jobs,†Baker said. “The Coast Guard thinks we saved a couple of lives.â€
